Graduation!

Whew!!! DD's Graduation finally arrived. What a day it was!! Our county schools always have their graduation ceremonies down at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. It was a little nervewracking because the day before there had been a shooting at the Holocaust Museum not too far away. Always something going on.

Anyway, DD was beautiful and happy and my parents were there along with our older daughter. Then we had the party that evening. It really turned out very well. Lots of kids came, they're so nice, too. Lots of food, friendly faces and happy graduates!

Baseball, baseball and MORE baseball!

Soooo much baseball lately. Five games in seven days! Plus tryouts for the high school summer team, plus practices! At least the school year is winding down. Can't wait for graduation!

Prom Pictures

My daughter's senior prom was this weekend. So much fun! Got lots of pictures. As it happened, another girl in her group had the EXACT SAME DRESS! And then another friend had one VERY SIMILAR. It was cute, though. One picture I got with the dates made it look like they were in a wedding!

Lame Blogger --- Busy Month

I know, I'm a lame blogger, but it's been kinda busy around here, and rainy. Why all the rain this spring? We don't live in Seattle. One whole weekend was spent up at Frostburg where my daughter will be in the fall and she had cheerleading tryouts, and she made the team for the fall, natch!!!!!! She's happy. They're going to do competitions, which she loves, including the big college one in Orlando in January. Super fun! They get to go to UCA camp in August, too! So she's already got a group of people she'll know when she gets to school in the fall. Happy, happy, happy.

We've also had a few baseball games, some have been rained out, some have been rescheduled. And we had the church confirmation for my son. That was quite a production. He's done, he's happy, and no more religion classes.

Now on to senior banquet, AP exams, internship reception, prom, graduation and graduation party. Whew, I'm tired just thinking about it all.

Meanwhile, I've been working a lot (I work at home transcribing), playing with the cat, and baking. I've noticed that my kids' friends come by a lot more if there is food at the house. All of my daughter's friends are expecting goodie boxes being mailed to them at college full of cookies and treats! That'll be fun.

Safeway Savings

I don't normally go to Safeway. I think it's outrageously overpriced. But I have been watching the sales flyers lately and have gotten some good deals. One being if you spend $25 on frozen foods, you'll get a coupon for $10 off your next trip for more frozen foods (think pizza, veggies, lean cuisine). So I bought everything on sale AND got $10 back. Then deal number 2 was buy 10 products from a list at various prices ranging from 75 cents to $2.50 on things like bagged salad (1.25), my daughter's fav. Fiber One bars ($2.50), to 32 oz gatorage (.75). You get the picture. Anyway, I spent a total of out-of-pocket $64.31 with savings of $39.19, plus my $10 for next time. I should have been better about gathering up more coupons, but I'm not very good at that. Maybe next week. Anyway, the frozen food deal is good through 3/31.

Baby Shower!

Went to my niece's baby shower yesterday. It was fun. So much food!!!!!!!!!! She got lots of nice things. She's having a girl, so everything was pink. My sister-in-law is such a fabulous cook, everything was so good. I made her a diaper cake (see photo), and some of Bakerella's cake pops. I'm not happy with how they turned out, though. They kept falling off the sticks. I'll have to make some more to perfect it. They sure were a hit, and quite yummy, if I do say so myself.

Surprise!

My daughter was awarded the Jaguar Award from her coach last week! This was so wonderful. The Jag Award goes to the team member who best represents their program on and off the field, voted by their peers. My daughter has been a varsity cheerleader her entire four years and has been co-captain the last two. This was a great honor for her and moved me to tears! Now if I could only get a picture of her WITH her plaque!

Monday Update

Whew!!! What a weekend. We had a basketball game, a basketball pizza party, a 2-day cheerleading competition, and we had THE SCHOOL TALK with our son. My husband reaaaaalllly wants him to go to the Catholic high school 30 minutes away, but he wants to go to the neighborhood public high school (walking distance). Lots of discussing back and forth, son is adament that he not be forced to go. I don't want to force him to go, but it's such a great school academically and he knows kids there already, but alas, not to be.

So the cheer competition was at George Mason University and daughter's squad (Dream Eternity Senior Level 4) came in first!!! They all got the cutest jackets!!! I'll try and sneak a picture of hers when she gets home.

Anyway, he's a shot from Saturday's competition (see above photo).

Working on a New Blog Post

I'm swamped today, sorry. I'll post something later today hopefully, with pictures. I've got shopping savings to brag about and maybe even a recipe to share. Still waiting on my iTouch prize, too.

Cookies and Driving

I made cookies last night. The kids were asking for them. I used to always make cookies from scratch, still do sometimes. But more often, I'll use those cute little Betty Croker mixes. I usually get them pretty cheap (on sale, coupons) and they make just enough. The ones we like the best are the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip. They just smell so good!!!

And the biggest news of all is that my sweet little DD got her license yesterday! Yes, watch out greater Montgomery County, she's on the road!!!! She was incredibly nervous, but I kept telling her that she would be fine, that she would make it and . . . she did! She immediately went to the grocery for me, went to the bank, went back to school, went to her friend's, drove to the basketball game last night. But when it came time to drive over to Red Robin after the game for dinner, she didn't want to drive at night. Smart girl after all!! So proud!

Today is basketball, baseball clinic at St. John's, DD has to work at 4, and I've got a ton of working to do myself, plus still have all the bedding to wash. UGH! And to top it off, my back is killing me. I don't know what I did, but it really hurts.

Oh, and a gratuitous kitty picture, too. She's still in the doghouse after her antics of this week. She chewed through some more electrical cords. Banishment to the basement when no one's around for her. Hard to believe that she's so cute and sweet and playful that there's a hidden devil inside!

Great deal at Target

If anyone's interested (if anyone's reading this!!!), Target has milk on sale this week. I know here in the DC area, milk is really pricey, usually $3.59 at my local Giant. But Target has milk for $2.99 for 1%. Other milks are on sale, too. Great Deal. I bought two! I also printed out some coupons to use for Tropicana OJ and Pepperidge Farm goldfish, $1 each. So that brought the cost of the OJ down to $2.19 ($2.50 or more at Giant), again I had two coupons. Great savings.

Birthday Boy

Here's the birthday boy with his gift!

I'm a Winner!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, apparently I entered a contest on the CouponCravings blog to win an iTouch and . . . guess what? . . . I actually WON!!!!!!!!!!! So excited. My son has one and I'm jealous of it. Now I can play, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We've had a busy week so far at our house. My husband's mother has been in the hospital for about a week (she's like 88) and will finally be going home today. Of course, he's been going over to see her every night after work.

Basketball on Saturday. Daughter worked Saturday night. She's a hostess with the mostess at Bonefish Grill. She made a TON of money!

It was my son's birthday on Sunday. He's 14!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it. My little baby! I'll try and post a picture in a minute.

The kids were home from school on Monday, being President's Day and all. We didn't do much. Played with the new Wii (birthday gift). I'm getting good at tennis.

Got a funeral to go to this week. One of my son's baseball teammates' dad finally succumbed to his cancer. Very sad. So we're going to the viewing today and the funeral tomorrow. I think this is my son's first funeral.

Anyway, just so stoked for the prize! I don't even care what it is, I just finally won something!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Another Cheer Competition!

This one at the Univ. of Maryland, College Park. My DD's senior small level 4 came in 1st. However, they had no competition, only a score to beat, but they beat it and were also level 4 grand champions!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was a fun competition, no pressure!

Basketball

My boy plays basketball on a rec league. It's just for fun, and he's pretty good. He plays point guard. Oh, and he's a cutie-pie, too. Here's a photo for your enjoyment.

Charlotte Cheer Competition

Well, we came in 3rd. Not what was expected. The girls really thought they'd get 1st (out of 9). Oh well. We had a good time anyway. Charlotte is such a nice town! We found the cutest sandwich shop and ate there several times. Matt's something-or-other, right across from the convention center.

Here are a couple of pics!

ANOTHER WIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Dream Allstars - Eternity (level 4, senior small) took first at Jamfest Live in Washington, D.C. this weekend!!!!!!!!!!! 1st out of six teams! And they even had a few mistakes. We're 3 for 3 so far this season! On Friday, we go to Charlotte, NC for a big competition. Should be fun. Can't wait to get out of town, although I'm dreading driving 7 hours and coming back the day before the inauguration. I'm very nervous about traffic on Monday getting back towards DC. Could be VERY BAD. Anyway, a few pics to go with this post.

This competition was neat because the team in first place got to sit on the sidelines to watch the other teams. So here's our squad watching and waiting. Our goody bag had these cute sunglasses in it and they all put them on. It was perfect!

Scrapbook Room

So I finally took some pictures of my little room which also serves as a "guest" room and I use that term loosely. My oldest hates to sleep on that little bed when she comes home (as she doesn't have her own room here anymore!). Anyway, I painted it the most beautiful shade of lavender last summer and my grandmother's old quilt just matches perfectly! I also just picked up two more of the storage cubes from Mikes at 50% off. I think six is enough. Still filling them up. I'm trying to organize more efficiently. I have a wonderful closet with great shelves that are still a mess. I'll post a picture of that when it's more organized. Enjoy!

New Year!

Happy 2009! I can't believe it's 2009. I remember being in the third grade in KY and having the teacher write on the board 1967! Time does fly when you're having fun. We spent NYE at some friends which was fun. We usually just stay in. Got a photo or two, not much. Hubby went to Miami to the Orange Bowl (VT against Cincinnati) Go Hokies! He'll be back today.
